Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine that often begins in childhood when bones of the spine are still growing. In many cases, the cause is unknown.

It is thought, however, that scoliosis is the result of a hereditary problem or an adaptation to some type of trauma, such as the birth process; or an injury, such as falling off of a bicycle.

The symptoms of scoliosis are often dismissed as "growing pains", delaying appropriate care.

Generally,0-20 degree angle scoliosis cases respond well to chiropractic adjustments. In the range of 20-40 degrees the chiropractor will work with orthopedic surgeons in combining chiropractic and orthopedic care. Cases that have an angle over 40 degrees are often considered for surgical intervention and chiropractic care is less effective.

When detected early, chiropractic care has excellent success in treating scoliosis. A Chiropractor cannot completely straighten a spine with scoliosis, but even small improvements can make a big difference in the patient's level of comfort and mobility.
